Annie sits at one of the tables, observing the strange scene where neighbors she barely knows are as happy as if they've known her forever. Juliet interrupts Annie's thoughts. JULIET (Smiling) What's wrong, Annie? Is it too much for you? And we haven't even popped the champagne yet! Annie's expression changes instantly, and she smiles back at Juliet. ANNIE I'm sorry. It's just that I'm not used to parties. I don't even know what to say... When did you plan all this? Juliet grabs Annie's arm and tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. Juliet gives a slightly forced laugh, swallows, and then looks at Annie with confusion. JULIET Oh, dear, it's a small town. Gossip spreads everywhere, haha! I found out three days ago. Juliet covers her mouth for a moment. Annie gets agitated and quickly stands up, then looks at her in horror. ANNIE I found out yesterday that I'm pregnant. I haven't even called my parents to tell them... How is it possible that you knew about my pregnancy before I did?! All the neighbors, including Juliet, look at her with fear and disgust. As if she's being rude or completely different from them. Perceiving this, Annie quickly enters the house. Her husband Albert follows, looking upset and mad. INT. HOUSE / ANNIE'S KITCHEN ALBERT What the hell is wrong with you? Everyone gathered today to celebrate something we've been waiting for over three years for. And you decide to upset them like that? ANNIE (Trembling voice) I don't know! That's not what—ugh. You wouldn't understand. Annie heads to the kitchen to drink some water. Albert hugs her from behind as she starts to cry. ALBERT What's going on, baby? Are you feeling overly hormonal due to the pregnancy? Annie takes a deep breath, thinks for a moment, and then speaks. ANNIE I miss my family, my parents, even the terrible apartment we were stuck in. Because even there, I felt safe. Since we arrived in this town, everything seems too perfect, but... I can't sleep well, and I'm scared. Albert holds her and makes her look at him. ALBERT What do you mean? ANNIE I have terrible nightmares about the neighbors. I feel like they're watching us. I see women bleeding and crying all the time, waiting for something, and I don't know what it is... Albert sighs in frustration, then touches his forehead and looks into her eyes. ALBERT Darling... Four days? To her, it felt like only a few hours had passed since she woke up in the early morning, vomiting and confirming that she was finally going to have a child. ALBERT You really don't remember anything from the past four days? No matter how hard Annie tries to remember every detail, she can't recall a thing. In her mind, there are distorted images of the women from her dreams. It's the only thing she can remember. She puts her trembling hands on her head as she starts to hear whispers of women. ANNIE (Trembling voice, on the verge of tears) I'm scared, Albert. Annie faints on the kitchen floor, and Albert screams terrified, asking their neighbors for help. Annie sees visions of her neighbors arguing and killing each other. Then, she sees a woman holding her child and running away. INT. SMALL GREEN VALLEY HOSPITAL / HOSPITALIZATION AREA Annie wakes up suddenly, feeling like her body is in pain. Her legs and arms hurt terribly. JULIET I wouldn't move too much if I were you. Annie is frightened and turns to look at her neighbor Juliet, who's wearing a doctor's coat. Juliet approaches slowly. JULIET Surprised to see me at work? Well, after you collapsed in your kitchen, I couldn't take the afternoon off as I wanted. Annie remains silent and simply adjusts herself on the bed, expecting the worst.
